Classic Gaming Expo Distinguished Guest:
JOHN SKRUCH
Joining Atari in 1982, John Skruch's primary responsibility involved the
AtariSoft line of software, which consisted of games being produced for
competing systems that Atari had either created or owned the rights to. When
Jack Tramiel bought the company and downsized the staff, Skruch was responsible
for identifying and cataloging all the various projects and prototypes that
remained, and also determining which ones were feasible to complete. As Atari's
Director of Software Development in 1995, he met with editors from Ultimate
Gamer magazine - the resulting article, focusing on several software and
hardware prototypes Skruch unveiled that were previously thought to be
vaporware, is now well-known by serious game collectors. He was also ultimately
the last employee left from the "old" Atari when the company shut down a year
later, in 1996. |
